Do you have a hard time defining your style? For example, when people ask me what my home’s style is, my answer falls somewhere along the lines of “ eclectic, cottage, farmhouse, vintage-inspired, Anthropologie-ish, not-quite-shabby, not-quite-traditional, almost contemporary, but really it depends on the day/week/phase of the moon, etc.” Phew.
It’s almost easier to define what isn’t my style than to define what is.
both via country living
One room is neutral, farmhouse-inspired, the other is colorful, fun and retro. What to do?
When looking at inspiration photos, one thing I’ve learned is to ask myself “what about this room am I drawn to.”
Narrowing down exactly what I like helps me to figure out exactly what I find pleasing in a room.
Secondly, I ask myself “will this room work for my family.”
Because, let’s face it, there are plenty of aesthetically pleasing rooms that I may like, but that do not fit my style, my home, and my family’s lifestyle.
Obviously there’s a lot more to be said on this topic, and it makes me wonder….
What tips/tricks do you use to help figure out your home decor style?

Yes I am with you! I most definitely have trouble defining my style because I like everything except for extreme contemporary. ex: a coffee table in the shape of lips. LOL
