5 easy ways to sleep better

eve mattress

I know I’m not breaking any new ground by making this claim, but I’ll say it anyway because it’s so important: a good night’s sleep is so, so vital to every aspect of our health and well-being. Getting quality sleep helps us feel happier, stay more focused, look better, feel better and live longer (among many other things).

Sleep advice is abundant; everyone from your grandmother to the internet has an opinion, suggestion or “secret ingredient” to getting a good night’s rest. Despite all the great tips out there, though, sometimes it’s the simplest suggestions that make the most impact. Today, I’m sharing 5 easy and doable ways to your sleep better each night.

1. Let’s start with the obvious: make sure you have a GREAT mattress. The beloved UK-favorite, eve, has arrived in the US, and they are changing the way we think about a good night’s sleep. The eve mattress is a foam mattress combining 3 types of foam to deliver one ridiculously comfortable sleeping experience.

eve, founded by four friends who wanted to simplify the daunting mattress-buying process, is so confident you’ll love their product that they offer a 100-day free trial. You can also get $100 off by entering your email here on eve’s site.

I posted on Instgram a quick video of our eve experience over the weekend…take a look to see our adventures, from unpacking to setting up to getting creative with the awesome box eve was delivered in:

As you can see, we had a ball bringing eve into our home, and the gang at eve has such a great eye for detail. From the inspirational quotes lining to box, to the packaging, to the aesthetics of the mattress itself, eve knows a thing or two about great design.

2. Power down your electronics at least an hour before turning in. I list this one second because I have such a hard time doing this. Those bright lights coming from your phone, laptop or tablet signal your brain that it’s time to be alert and active. Putting away the electronics and doing a quieter activity helps put your brain into relaxation, going-to-bed mode.

3. Cut out the caffeine after noon. Apparently, that afternoon cup of coffee can stay with you longer than you think, keeping you awake. Better options after noon include flavored water (I love lemon or cucumber) or caffeine-free tea.

4. Pay attention to your surroundings. Peaceful, calm surroundings are crucial to a great night’s sleep. Paint your bedroom a tranquil color, pay attention to how many lights from electronics continue to glow after the lights are out, make sure your bedding is comfortable, and keep your room on the cooler side to help ensure a peaceful night.

5. Engage your senses. Whether it’s aromatherapy (lavender is great for sleep), a warm bath, or even meditation, engaging your senses with calming activities can help signal your brain that it’s time to rest. Bonus points if you establish and keep a routine each night to help your body know it’s time to wind down.

I’d love to know-what tips do YOU have for getting your best night’s sleep?

I definitely agree that mattresses have a huge impact on the quality sleep that you're getting. That being said, you talk about the Eve mattress, which is a foam mattress that combines three types of foam. Just thinking about that makes me want to go to sleep-- it sounds so comfortable. I have been thinking about getting a new mattress, so I'll definitely look more into this brand. Thank you for sharing!
