napkin wine bag + free printable gift tags

When it comes to holiday gift wrap, I love finding simple, inexpensive shortcuts that look anything but run-of-the-mill. It’s not a challenge to come up with something amazing if you have an hour and unlimited funds…but creating a clever, no-sew wrapping job in 10 minutes and a couple of dollars? Much harder to pull off.

I often use wine for hostess gifts around the holidays, and, each year, I tend to find a brand or style of wine that I love, and use that for my gifts that year. This year, the wine of choice is Gloria Ferrer

Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards, opened in 1986, is Carneros’ original sparkling wine house, owned and founded by the Ferrer family of Spain. Exuberant and fruit-forward, Gloria Ferrer wines go perfectly with today’s diverse and flavorful cuisine, and have earned over 400 gold medals and 50 90+ scores in the last 5 years. In short, they’ll make the perfect host/hostess gifts for our get-togethers this year.

For a simple, chic and elegant no-sew wine bag, I used a cloth napkin (typically about 20″x20″), ribbon and some printable gift tags (available to download here). You can find inexpensive cloth napkins almost anywhere. Mine are from Target, but World Market, Crate & Barrel, and Pottery Barn also have a great selection.

Lay out your napkin, and place your bottle of wine at the edge, with the top of the bottle meeting the edge of the napkin.

Next, start rolling the bottle and napkin, then fold up the excess napkin fabric (similar to wrapping a gift)…

…finish by lifting up the bottom edge of napkin, and folding it over, as seen below)…

Continue to roll the bottle and napkin, tie with a ribbon, and you’re done! For this festive bow, I just took 4 pieces of ribbon, and tied them at the neck of the bottle. It gives the gift a relaxed, shabby-style feel that I love.

gift tags

I created some printable holiday gift tags using some of my favorite holiday elements–whimsical trees and deer, fun wreaths, and confetti. Just print onto an 8×10 piece of cardstock, trim, and hang!

For gift giving purposes this year, I chose the 2012 Carneros Pinot Noir (my favorite grape variety), which, had a delayed harvest due to a long, cool growing season, giving the fruit more time to develop flavor and concentration. I’m also gifting the Blanc De Noirs, created mainly from Pinor Noir grapes and boasts bright strawberry and black cherry aromas.

So there you have it! A simple, yet clever, no-sew wine bag that’s sure to impress.

personalized gift ideas + holiday lights gift wrap tutorial with Walmart Photo

personalized gift ideas 1 When it comes to holiday gifting, I am a firm believer that presentation is everything. While a great gift is nice, taking the time to put a little thought, effort, and personalization into your gift wrap makes the gift-giving experience extra special and really shows your recipient how much you care. personalized gift ideas 2 I wanted to take my gift wrap this year to the next level, and include a little something extra that our families can keep as a reminder of the season, and display year after year. Using some favorite photos, I created some fun and original ornaments with the help of Walmart Photo. Walmart Photo has a large selection of unique ornaments, and many are under $10 through January 5th. personalized gift ideas 3 Now, a package tied up with a cute ornament is one thing, but personalizing your gift wrap even further with fingerprint holiday lights adds a whole new level of festive cheer to your gifts. I created this holiday lights gift wrap using just a few materials:

  • Wrapped Gifts (using plain kraft or white paper is best)
  • Permanent Marker
  • Craft Paints or Finger Paints

Step 1: Using your marker, sketch out your string of lights, including the metal piece at the end of each light, if desired.

You may recall a post I did in the Spring sharing my love for GraphicStock, and I just couldn’t let the holidays pass us by without sharing a couple more freebies using GraphicStock images. There’s also a giveaway at the end of this post! If you love Amazon, you won’t want to miss it!

To create a calendar of your own (and don’t worry, if you don’t have a photo editing program and want to just download one of mine, I’ll share the links at the end of this post), open your photo editing program (I use Photoshop Elements), open a blank document (I chose 11×14), and open your images from GraphicStock.

graphicstock 1

Choose the background image you want to use, and place it over your blank document. Find a calendar template (easy to find using Google) and place it on your document. I found a chalkboard frame that I thought would look cute under the photo; you can find lots of similar ones by searching “labels” in GraphicStock. Place that on your document as well, underneath the chalkboard frame.

Add your photo, resizing it to fit, if necessary, and you’re done!

If you’d just rather use one of my templates, just click the link below the calendar template you like best! The calendars print at 11×14, which I found to be the best size for seeing the dates clearly. You can print it out (a photo printer may be best), take a picture (5×7 fits well), and adhere it to the chalkboard portion of the calendar.
