Yesterday, I shared two canvas art pieces that I recently painted, and I’m sure you wouldn’t be surprised to know that there is LOTS of inspiration out there for DIY canvas art. If you are interested in making some art of your own, but aren’t sure where to start, this post is for you. Here’s some of my favorite canvas art DIYs to inspire you…

diy canvas art-two ways

As far as art in my home goes, I tend to graviate towards unique prints, handpainted wooden signs (also, here), and fun canvas art.

When I changed up the art above my son’s bed, I had three fabric-wrapped canvases on my hands, and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with them. I pulled off the fabric, gave one to my little one to paint on, and got busy with the remaining two…

I really didn’t know what direction I wanted to take with them, but found a lot of inspiration on (duh) Pinterest. I especially loved this post by home sweet homemade, and loved the idea of stamping onto a canvas. Some craft paint, a couple of brushes and an hour later, I had two new works of art that I loved! And here’s the great thing about working with canvases and craft paint: if you mess up or don’t like the direction your art is going, just wait until it dries and paint over it (fyi-I did that more than once with both of them).

For this one, I wanted it to work with the colors in my kitchen-kelly green, yellow, and lots of blues. I squirted paint on the canvas, blended and mixed it all together, and let it dry. I then took a round cap off of one of my paints, squirted some yellow and white onto a piece of foil, and started stamping. It’s not at all my usual style of art, but I like it! And if I get tired of it in a couple of weeks, I can just repaint over it.

As much as I love the first one, I think this is my favorite. I was going for a blue ombre design, but didn’t know what to do with it once that was done. I was considering painting a quote on it, but couldn’t find one I was crazy about. I ended up finding an old Martha Stewart stencil, loved the design, and painted a few of them onto the canvas. I then took white puffy paint (sooo professional, I know), and wrote out the word “embrace”. I’m not sure where this piece is going to end up, but the blues make it work almost anywhere in my home.

So…what do y’all think? Love to diy art in your home? Tell me your favorite tricks/techniques for painting on canvas-would love to hear!
