I’ll be honest. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see the seasons change in my life. Spring has always been known as the season of renewal and new life, and, this year, that sentiment is especially true for our family. While we count down the days to Baby Girl’s birth, let’s get inspired with some beautiful images of my favorite season….

Hi! I’m feeling so giddy about being able to share on Burlap + Blue today! My name is Brooke, and I blog over at www.shoplemondrop.com where I try to share easy, budget-friendly party ideas (including using goodies from my shop), home decor ideas and just other good stuff–all with a little bit of me and my life mixed in. Come on over for a visit sometime! Today, I’m sharing a quick, easy and cheap tutorial that everyone can do with supplies that most of us have on hand all the time. You may get your hands a little dirty, but don’t worry–it washes off!

My daughter’s birthday party was a couple weekends ago. I’m telling you, I had no time to prepare for this party. A quick run to the store was all there was time for as we were just getting back from a trip. (I know, I could have planned ahead, but I was too overwhelmed with packing for two back-to-back trips.)

Candy for the candy buffet: check. Favors: check. Decor: not so check.

The color scheme was black, orange and pink so I grabbed the newspapers out of the recycling bin and started playing. This is what I ended up with. What do you think?

The only supplies needed were newspapers and a stapler (stocked with staples).

Wanna know the quick steps? Ok, here goes.

making newspaper wallflower 1 1024x1024 newspaper flowers {a tutorial}

  • tear newspaper sheets in half along the center seam so you have to long rectangular pieces–4-5 or more for fuller flower
  • gather the straight edge together almost like a fan and staple–repeat 3-4 timesmaking newspaper wallflower collage 2 1024x1024 newspaper flowers {a tutorial}
  • now put all 4-5 petals together by stapling at the centers where they overlap (this is where I unhinged my stapler to get it around and into the area I wanted to staple)
  • you may want to staple where the edges of the petals overlap
  • scrunch the edges of the petals

  • tear a strip of the halved newspaper in half
  • fold it over a couple of times and staple
  • continue to wrap and twist it around and staple at the end
  • adhere this to the center of the petals
  • scrunch & floof the flower until it looks like you want it to look

Here is how it looked on the day of the soiree. I added a touch of pink and orange paint to give them a little depth and zing.

I also used them for the “photo booth” which was a total hit with the girls!
Thanks for letting me stop by!
