fall mantle (and embroidery hoop wreath how-to)

Well, one of my mantles, at least. As I mentioned in my mid-summer mantle post, I usually am about 2 months late completing and photographing my “real” mantle, so I figured I’d share what I had so it looks like I am ball (at least once in a while).

This mantle is upstairs in our dining room; here’s the tutorial to make it, by the way. It’s due for a new paint job (I’ll be trying my hand at chalk paint-yippee!)

Anyway, I love every element of this, especially the embroidery hoop wreath…I see one of these for every season/holiday in my future! Here’s what you need to make your own…

I think gathering the supplies was the hardest part of this project:) Simply cut lengths of your branches, and hot glue them to your hoop. Hang or prop against the wall, and add your letter of choice! I used a 14″ hoop, and the metal letters at Hobby Lobby fit in perfectly.

How’s your Fall decor coming along? Need some inspiration? Here’s my Fall mantle from last year, and here’s a link to 50 of my favorite fall crafts!

From the title of this post, you may get the idea that I had a lovely, put-together early-Summer mantle, and am just changing it up mid-season for the fun of it. Don’t be fooled-I threw up some votives and a wreath a few months ago and haven’t touched it since. Maybe I should call this post the better-late-than-never Summer mantle.

Anyway…my inspiration for this mantle came from this bhg image…

I loved the tight color palete and overall configuration.

The fern print is part of a set that I’ve had forever. They’ve been in pretty much every corner of my home.
The bowl was made by very talented father-in-law…he’s an amazing woodworker, I’ll have to share with you all one day the toys he’s made for Drew over the years.

The blue pottery piece was a gift from my sweet sister, you can find the tutorial for the felt votive holders here, and the tile was a find from a local salvadge yard.

There you have it! The probably-won’t-get-touched-again-till-Christmas mantle. Good thing I like it:)
