My front door is all ready for Summer….

After having to take down my leaves and lace felt wreath because some darling birds decided to build a nest in it and we needed to take it down for a bit to discourage such behavior (do these kinds of things only happen to me??), I was left with a blank door and a desire for something summery, glittery and pretty.

So I did what any good crafter would do. I went to Hobby Lobby, bought a straw wreath form, covered it in burlap fabric and then added an accent of navy houndstooth fabric leftover from my kids’ room window treatments. I added a glass glitter letter and glitter butterflies (all from Michaels), and hung it with some red, ruffled ribbon.

It was a snap to put together, and I love the pop of color it gives to my otherwise plain front door.

How are you getting your home décor ready for Summer?

From the title of this post, you may get the idea that I had a lovely, put-together early-Summer mantle, and am just changing it up mid-season for the fun of it. Don’t be fooled-I threw up some votives and a wreath a few months ago and haven’t touched it since. Maybe I should call this post the better-late-than-never Summer mantle.

Anyway…my inspiration for this mantle came from this bhg image…

I loved the tight color palete and overall configuration.

The fern print is part of a set that I’ve had forever. They’ve been in pretty much every corner of my home.
The bowl was made by very talented father-in-law…he’s an amazing woodworker, I’ll have to share with you all one day the toys he’s made for Drew over the years.

The blue pottery piece was a gift from my sweet sister, you can find the tutorial for the felt votive holders here, and the tile was a find from a local salvadge yard.

There you have it! The probably-won’t-get-touched-again-till-Christmas mantle. Good thing I like it:)
