I love advent calendars. I love the sense of anticipation they bring, and I love that there are so many variations out there-from simple to elaborate, whimsical to rustic. I’ll share some favorites in my next post, but today, I wanted to share my creation with you…
I have a 20 month old, so I wanted something simple and colorful to make it age-appropriate, but I also wanted to create a tradition that we could carry on through the years. Being a former Kindergarten teacher, I also loved the idea of it being educational.
I started out with bags from The Party Fairy, and labeled each with seals I found at Big Lots (from the Martha Stewart Crafts line-I love finding her stuff on sale).
I filled each bag with a couple of M&M’s, a felt “ornament” (from Michaels), and a puzzle piece. The puzzle idea was from my Aunt, and I love it. This year we are using an ABC board puzzle (found my my mother-in-law), but I love the idea of each year’s puzzle getting more complex as he gets older.
Each morning, Drew will match the number on his bag to the corresponding number on the tree (ha ha ha, not quite, but it’s a nice goal), place his ornament on the tree, place his letter in his puzzle, and eat his candy.
When the tree is filled with ornaments and his puzzle is complete, Christmas will be here.
And before I forget…
Congrats to Cara from Just Us who won the Frenchie and Flea notecard giveaway!
Contact me, Cara, with your info and I’ll get them out to you.
