More than half of all American adults create and/or perform art in a given year, as reported by the National Endowment for the Arts. A large-scale survey entitled Americans Speak Out about the Arts found that 63% of the population believes that art lends meaning to their lives… so much so that millions are willing to back candidates who increase arts spending. If you are an amateur artist who takes photographs or creates drawings, paintings, or sculptures, you may wonder how to display your work in a way that shows off its full beauty. Perhaps you wish to inspire friends and family to engage with your art, ask questions, and perhaps become inspired to create art themselves. Below are a few ideas of display ideas that won’t cost more than a few dollars.
Upcycling Old Frames
If you have a spare wall in a living room, terrace, or hallway, why not jazz it up with a photography display featuring your own work? Frames of all styles, sizes, and shapes can make up a fantastically artistic display of color and black-and-white shots alike. Even if most of your collection comprises 6×8 frames or other popular sizes, you can add an eclectic touch by using frames made from different materials, including metal, wood, and glazed glass.
Folded Panel Screens
Are you a fan of antique folded panel screens? They are not only eye-catching but also hugely practical, as they can be used to divide spaces, dress up, and simply embellish a space. To create your art display panels, you will need a few lightweight wood screen doors, carpeting material, door hinges, a staple gun, and curtain hooks. Simply lay the screen doors on a tarp and cut and wrap the carpet around, securing the carpet with staples. Next, connect the panels with hinges and attack the curtain hooks to the panels. Use these hooks to hang paintings, prints, photographs, and more.
Wooden Displays
If rustic, ranch-style, or biophilic design styles are your thing, then a wooden display is a fantastic, easy, affordable display to select. To create your display, you will need a plywood board, cedar cubes, various sizes of birch half-circles, glue for wood, power drills and screws, L brackets, and (if you wish) some colored paint. Create a base by cutting your piece of plywood to your ideal size. Glue the birch half-circles to the plywood, screwing them in place with your power drill for added stability. Paint your cedar cubes in attractive colors and use them to elevate any small art pieces you want to emphasize. Paint the structure to match your artworks.
