Happy Monday, all!
Flipping through a recent Crate & Barrel catalog, I came across a piece of coral art…
I couldn’t help but admire it’s natural texture and Summer-inspired feel.
I then remembered seeing similar coral specimens recently at Williamsburg Pottery (a trove of treasures, that place). A week or so later, I had coral in my possession, along with an old frame, some fabric and some paint (and hot glue, but that’s hardly worth mentioning-it’s almost a given now with any DIY project I undertake). An hour so after I started, I had this…
Step 1: Paint and distress frame. I used an 11×14 frame and just removed the glass and such (I did keep the cardboard backing, that’ll make an appearance a bit later). I painted it gray, then my go-to Heirloom White, and used an electric sander to distress.
Step 2: Now you need to take the piece of cardboard that hopefully came with the frame (if not, just cut one to fit), and wrap it in fabric. I used inexpensive muslin (is there another kind, I wonder?), but linen would also work well. Insert and secure into frame.
Step 3: Next, take your trusty hot glue gun and attach your coral to your frame.
Easy as can be. And the best part is (other than the coral) I had everything already in house to complete this project (one benefit of being an amateur hoarder, I suppose!)
