Each spring, my husband and I like to complete one or two house projects to add some curb appeal to our home. We look for projects that are a great value, are high-impact, and can be done in a day.
This year, with the help of Mid-America, we decided to replace all the shutters in the front of our home. Our shutters are original to the house (early 1970s!), and were beginning to show signs of wear and tear.
Take a look at some of our “before” images…
It may be hard to tell, but the paint was starting to peel a bit (revealing, to our surprise, all of the previous colors of paint used on our shutters, from red, to periwinkle blue to ivory). Plus, if you look closely at the above picture, you can see signs that our wood shutters were on their last legs; the above shutter is being held together with masking tape (a clear sign an update is in order!)
As you can see, it was definitely time to update the shutters on our home. We chose Mid-America because we wanted something very low-maintenance (no painting required), impervious to insects, and, most importantly to us, made in the USA. They are one of the leading manufacturers of siding accessories, offering the largest selection of exterior home products in the industry.
We were able to take down our old shutters in about an hour or so, and then we were ready to install.
Installation was easier than I had anticipated; my husband was able to install all six sets of shutters in a few hours! We love the updated style of our new shutters, and the fresh look that it gives our home.
Here’s another image of our home before changing out the shutters…
…and here, again, is the “after” shot. The difference is subtle, but definitely noticeable.
We chose to keep our shutters black, but Mid-America has a large selection of both colors and designs to choose from!
I’d love to know-what easy, high-impact ways are you planning to update your home for spring?
